Amazon's Simple Storage Service

S3

S3 offers safe, reliable, unlimited storage as a service over the Internet. Amazon's Web Services division is bringing the idea of Cloud Computing to the world. The idea is simple, take an internal organization whose core competency is to deliver high quality compute services and turn it inside out. Amazon is paving the way to streamlining storage expenses, charging customers for only the space they need and use.

A test organization may experience peaks and valleys of activity. In this situation Aperio could temporarily require large amounts of storage. By using S3 to hold the data only when necessary, it eliminates the need to purchase additional storage that would largely go unused. S3 brings a unique capability to Aperio customers, and each situation will need to evaluate whether S3 is appropriate or not.

There are a variety of third party S3 bucket and PC backup applications that help move and synchronize data between PCs and S3 buckets. Aperio customers can use S3 as a way to transfer data from outside the organization to Aperio. Perhaps you have a contract test facility running tests on your product. Data generated at the contract house can be saved in an S3 bucket and your corporate Aperio can merge internal and external test data seamlessly.

Aperio and S3

Aperio's S3 interface provides a seamless connection to cloud based storage. Open an account on Amazon's S3 website and start using S3 storage with Aperio immediately. Crawler tasks can discover new data on S3 and replicator tasks can move data to S3.
